FRIENDS OF THE PERHAM AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY AT A GLANCE

WHO WE ARE

The Friends of the Perham Area Public Library is a volunteer, charitable organization that believes a vibrant library system is the heart and soul of a successful community.

To us, a library is much more than a repository for information. It is an ever-changing resource for learning and enjoyment, and a lively center for community involvement. All members of the community can share equally in its wealth.

The Friends provides an organization for people who are committed to assisting the Perham Area Public Library in providing the best possible library service that Perham can have.

WHAT WE DO

The Friends of the Perham Area Public Library support our community by raising money in a variety of ways, including membership fees, donations, and special events and projects.

All funds we help raise support the important work our library does to enrich our community. Projects and programs that we currently help fund include: children's, teen's and adult's programs, new and replacement books and materials, technology and computer additions and upgrades, library landscaping maintenance, and so much more!

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING

We support the children of our community in many different ways. Our biggest endeavor each year is funding the Perham Area Public Library's 'Children's Summer Reading Program' which takes place over the months of June and July. We also provide funding for weekly story times, unique story times, and special children's events all year round!

ADULT'S PROGRAMMING

We also provide many different activities for adults! Each year the Friends support the Winter Reading Program for Teens and Adults, which promotes reading throughout adulthood. In addition, we also provide funding for visiting author programs, arts, cultural and musical programs, and historical programs!

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments in roads, dams, clinics and factories. Literacy is a platform for democratization, and a vehicle for the promotion of cultural and national identity.... For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right.... Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.”
